PT TOMORROW: AL Central—Avila's airing it out

When James McCann (C, DET) returned from the DL, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus addressed the catching platoon with Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press. Between the right-handed McCann and the red-hot lefty Alex Avila (C, DET; pictured above), Ausmus will not do a straight platoon, but he also won't burn out Avila given the imbalance of LHPs vs. RHPs Detroit will face.

Tom Kephart briefed us on Avila in the May 27 PT Today. His hit rate is still in the clouds at 42%, but it may be helping him to continue swinging with confidence. Avila's 158 HctX is a career best by a mile, and he's nearly doubled his 2016 FB% (currently 45%) on the way to nine HR in 115 AB. Detroit GM Al Avila told the media his son is back to hitting...
