Divisional Outlook: AL Central—Mark Reynolds released; Gomes and Raburn to see more time?

The Indians released Mark Reynolds (1B/3B/DH, CLE) this week, creating opportunities for several players. Reynolds played 39 games at 3B, 37 at 1B, and 18 at DH this season with 18 at 1B since July 1st. Nick Swisher (OF/1B/DH, CLE) and Carlos Santana (C/1B/DH, CLE) will continue to get the bulk of the playing time at 1B.

Yan Gomes (1B/C, CLE) could benefit in two ways from Reynolds' departure. If Santana picks up additional 1B starts, Gomes would catch; and Gomes played 20 games at first in 2012, so he could pick up some starts at 1B. The upside for Gomes owners could be in the power categories, as Gomes owns a 142 PX season to date. He has eight HR in only 168 AB with a .310 BA.
