BATTING: Where the BoYs are

OK, the time for exercising excruciating patience is over.

We’ve hit the May 15 mark, which is the earliest date BaseballHQ.com recommends for making roster decisions (some of our analysts go further and say the starting line is at the end of May).

One of the first steps toward figuring out which batters to move is to look at how well they’ve done so far year-to-date (YTD) with how well they’re projected to do the balance of the year (BoY). The idea is that players with big discrepancies between YTD and BoY might be candidates for targeting or avoiding.

We started by taking the BHQ files for all MLB batters through games played on Saturday, May 13. Using the dollar values for 15-team mixed, we subtracted their YTD performance...
