BATTING: Sleepers

The end of many drafts is a sleeper chase, with teams angling to add a fifth OF, second catcher, or bench infielder who is going to come out of nowhere to post decent results for a buck or a 22nd- or 23rd-round pick.

This edition of the Batting Buyers Guide looks at hitters who might be able to provide decent value for next to no cost, because they have the skills they need to succeed and are just waiting for a chance, in the form of PT.

Our method was straightforward. We filtered the March 11 BaseballHQ.com projections for all MLB batters, looking for batters who met these criteria:

  • More than 100 pAB, less than 225
  • PX or Spd greater than 100
  • ct% over 80%
  • Decent potential to start the year on the big-league roster
  • Almost!
