PT TOMORROW: NL West—Stripling shines, but can he stick?

Last week in this space, we recommended Ross Stripling (RHP, LA) as someone who "could hold some late NL-only value" after being named the team's fifth starter—we had no idea he'd go and toss seven hitless innings vs. SF in his MLB debut. Stripling's performance certainly gives him some leash, though it was rated just a PQS-3 according to our revamped Pure Quality Start metric thanks to a mediocre 4/4 K/BB in the outing.

Despite Stripling's strong debut, he's likely keeping the seat warm for Hyun-Jin Ryu (LHP, LA)—assuming the latter can make a healthy return from shoulder surgery. Ryu is currently throwing simulated games and figures to start a rehab assignment shortly. Don't expect Ryu to return until late May at...
