It’s hard to say if the Braves were ever truly embarrassed by their riches at the C position, but a combination of trades and injuries have conspired to thrust a promising prospect back onto the MLB roster and seen him thrive in limited duty. We’re talking of course about William Contreras (C, ATL), the 24-year-old backstop who has gotten off to a fine start at the MLB level in 2022: .231/.333/.692, 7 R, 4 HR, 7 RBI in 26 AB. Contreras played in one game when backup Manny Piña (C, ATL) was bothered by what was characterized at the time as minor wrist soreness in early April.
