Steven Matz (LHP, NYM) and Seth Lugo (RHP, NYM) began minor league rehab stints on May 18. As you might recall, both young hurlers opened the 2017 campaign on the disabled list—Matz with strained flexor tendon in his left elbow and Lugo with a partial tear in the ulnar collateral ligament of the right elbow. As of now, the plan is for Matz to make two more rehab starts, while Lugo is slated for two or three additional rehab outings. Barring a setback, it’s possible that Matz and Lugo could be ready to return during the June 2-4 series against the Pirates. The Mets pitching staff is in dire straits at the moment, ranking last in MLB in ERA (starting pitchers combined to rank 29th in MLB in ERA), so any help would be greatly...
