The Cubs have had mixed results with the promotion of their prospects this season. Matt Mervis (1B, CHC) stands out as a disappointment after he was demoted Thursday in order to make room on the roster for Cody Bellinger (OF, CHC). While it wasn’t the ideal debut (-33 BPV), Mervis is very likely to get another chance later this season and certainly in 2024.  His underlying skills (118 HctX, 142 xPX) also suggest he should experience more success the second time around.

A certain faller from a prospect perspective is Brennen Davis (OF, CHC). After being sidelined for much of the 2022 season due to back surgery and ongoing discomfort, Davis was entering a vital 2023 campaign.  Unfortunately, he hasn’t delivered as hoped,...
