PT TOMORROW: NL Central—Perez could push Villar for 2B at-bats

Despite what may appear on the surface to be a much better start with the bat this season than in 2017, Jonathan Villar (2B, MIL) still hasn’t locked down the everyday job at second base. Villar’s .280 BA through 118 AB outpaces his .238 xBA by far more than can explained by his good speed. He has a 67% ct% and is walking at a career-low 6% rate. A 68% GB% is good for a speedster like him, but Villar doesn’t make enough contact to be even a league-average hitter, which he needs to be to continue justifying his starting job given his mediocre defense.

The good news for Villar owners is that the Brewers don’t have many good alternates. Prospect Mauricio Dubón (2B/SS, MIL) was raking at hitter-friendly AAA-Colorado...
