PT TOMORROW: AL East—Darkhorse rotation arms emerge throughout division

The back end of the Yankees rotation is where the biggest battle of the team’s spring camp continues to be found. This week’s primary developments include a new pitcher entering the fray, one exiting it and a third pitcher initially thought to be a favorite finally putting his best foot forward.

The new contender is 24-year-old Jordan Montgomery (LHP, NYY), who struck out 8 while yielding 2 ER over 4.1 IP March 23, following up on a scoreless 4-inning appearance March 17 (2 K).

Montgomery had a fine season split between Double-A and Triple-A in 2016: 2.13 ERA, 1.20 WHIP with a 134/45 K/BB in 139.1 IP, saving his best work for AAA-Scranton/Wilkes-Barre: 0.97 ERA, 37/9 K/BB in 37 IP over 6 starts.
