A rebuilding outfield is full of 2019 disappointments to date, but the club is finding unexpected help from converted middle infielder Lourdes Gurriel (2B/LF, TOR). An early 7-for-40 performance at the plate along with throwing yips as a second baseman dispatched Gurriel back to Triple-A by mid-April for a reset and crash course on becoming a utility player—which meant spending a lot of time (23 games) in LF. And something about this has apparently worked, as suggested by Gurriel's .351 BA and 8 HR through 77 AB since his late May return. The plate skills (7% bb%, 72% ct%) remain a work-in-progress, but Gurriel has always hinted at having more power than his older brother—and now a year-to-date 168/141 PX/xPX is...
