Even as they deal with dinged-up veterans like Jacoby Ellsbury (OF, NYY) and Alex Rodriguez (DH, NYY), the Yankees perhaps have an even more perplexing issue to confront: how long to allow Chase Headley (3B, NYY) to work through his extreme struggles at the plate.

Headley, who is signed through 2018 at $13 million per year, headed into New York’s May 8 game batting .169 and still looking for his first extra-base hit on the season.

Headley’s contact rate is not down from his career norms, but he has been making weaker contact (73 HctX) and exchanging line drives for ground balls. Headley is at least saying the right things about “seeing the ball well,” but only time will tell if that begins to bear out in his...
