Publicly, Yankees GM Brian Cashman has said that Aaron Hicks (OF, NYY) will enter spring training with a leg up to serve as the team’s starting left fielder, though that may be the $30.5 million Hicks is owed over the next three years talking more than merit.

While Hicks’ high walk rate kept his on-base percentage in an acceptable range, his flagging power skills and xBA suggest he is more than capable of losing that front-runner status in short order.

The next man up would seem to be Oswaldo Cabrera (OF, NYY), who flashed a little bit of pop and a little bit of speed in his major league debut this past season, albeit with a mildly disappointing 71% ct% rate. Not yet 24 years old, there is plenty of time for Cabrera to...
