AL Central: Save opps for Hoffman in MIN?

Some observations from around the division in the wake of the trade deadline…

  • A 6.31 ERA in April and May cost Jeff Hoffman the closer role in Toronto, and was one of the first steps toward his being traded to the Twins this week, but since June 1st, he's put up a 1.21 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 22.1 IP. And overall, he has multiple career-bests this season: a 34% K%, 17.8% SwK, and a 2.75 xERA. He has also lowered his fly ball rate from 43% to 30%, addressing one of the issues that hurt him in 2025: 15 HR allowed. He's allowed 4 this year. Yoendrys Gómez is the closer right now in Minnesota, but as we analyzed last week, his 5.09 xERA suggests he could lose the role at any time, and in an appearance on August 2nd, he took...
