DIVISIONAL OUTLOOK: NL West—Dodgers' options at 3B uninspiring

Luis Cruz (3B, LA) became a fixture in the lineup during the second half of last season, and the results were mixed. Both his 88% contact rate and 24% line drive rate were solid, leading to a .297 batting average. But he also posted an abysmal 3% walk rate and below average speed and power. His skill set may be fine for a utility player, but not for an everyday third baseman. He sits atop the depth chart, but has others pushing him for playing time.

Juan Uribe (3B, LA) is seeing some action at first base this spring to make him available all over the infield. Should he make the Opening Day roster, the $7 million the Dodgers owe him this year may be the main reason, as his competitors offer just as much versatility,...
