DIVISIONAL OUTLOOK: AL East—Lawrie position switch has trickle-down effect

Toronto Blue Jays

Brett Lawrie (2B/3B, TOR) returned to the Blue Jays' lineup July 13 at a new position: second base. Since Lawrie played 2B throughout his rehabilitation assignment, the team appears committed to giving him an extended look at the position (where he played in the 2009-2010 initial stages of his minor-league career in the Brewers organization). Lawrie should earn 2B eligibility in most leagues, giving his owners additional flexibility with their rosters.

But more than that, owners are looking for more production from Lawrie. To provide it, he will need to find some semblance of the ct% skills he displayed last year and the power he showed in 2011—neither of which had been fully present before he hit the disabled list....
