The Padres promoted the 24-year-old from Triple-A and he’ll pitch in the middle innings for now. Maton has much more potential than that, however, as he owns outstanding, natural stuff and a late-innings mentality. He’s breezed through the minors with his power arsenal, highlighted by his heavy 92-96 mph fastball. He also mixes in a hard curveball, cutter and slider.
