A projection bet by the Padres in the 17th round in 2015, Wingenter has seen his stock take off this year after an offseason strength and conditioning program allowed him to get the most out of his tools. At 6’7” and 200 pounds, the native Alabaman was touching 95 with Auburn but finally reached 100 this year with his plus fastball. He backs that up with an above-average slider, though his control is still less than desirable at 4.9 this year for Triple-A El Paso, where he serves as the closer.
