The Rockies made a surprising free agent splash by signing Kris Bryant (3B/OF, COL) to a long-term deal with a full no-trade clause. Shortly after the signing became official, manager Bud Black said that Bryant would play primarily in left field. That announcement seemed inevitable as the team was unlikely to disrupt the development of both Ryan McMahon (2B/3B, COL) and Brendan Rodgers (2B/SS, COL) along the infield.

In turn, competition will only further tighten in the outfield. Charlie Blackmon (OF, COL) is the presumptive designated hitter, which goes some way to clearing the potential logjam in the outfield. Center field should belong to Sam Hilliard (OF, COL) to begin the season, and offseason darling Connor Joe...
