The departure of Ken Giles (RHP, HOU) via trade created a vacancy in the closer role. With the team in rebuilding mode, it seems unlikely that they will add a big piece to fill the void. That means David Hernandez (RHP, PHI) figures to head to spring training as the favorite to replace Giles. Hernandez appeared in 40 games for the Diamondbacks in 2015 after returning from April 2014 Tommy John surgery, when he posted a 4.28 ERA, 3.94 xERA, 8.8 Dom and 2.9 Ctl in 34 IP. The 31-year-old may never regain the form he displayed in 2012 (2.50 ERA, 12.9 Dom, 2.9 Ctl, and 163 BPV), but he certainly has some upside.
