PT TOMORROW: NL East—Could Steven Matz soon be summoned to NY?

One has to wonder how much longer the Mets will wait to promote Steven Matz (LHP, NYM). The 23-year-old has been terrific so far this year with Triple-A Las Vegas (2.30 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 9.3 Dom, 3.5 Ctl, and 12% SwK% in 78.1 IP). The Mets are already trying to figure out to cram six starters into five starting rotation slots, but the thought of adding Matz to the big league rotation has to be very tempting. It could happen sooner rather than later.

The Mets have been trying to unload one of their starting pitchers, specifically Dillon Gee (RHP, NYM) or Jon Niese (LHP, NYM), but haven’t yet found a trade to their liking. The team designated Gee for asssignment on Monday.

Niese had a stretch of four consecutive poor outings...
