PT TOMORROW: AL West—Rotation uptick in OAK

Oakland Athletics

The rotation's performance and immediate outlook have suddenly taken a turn for the better. Part of the improvement can be traced to a May turnaround from Mike Fiers (RHP, OAK)—2.52 ERA through four starts following a horrendous 7.83 ERA in five April outings—that looks temporary, given his continued inability to miss bats (5.8 Dom, 7% SwK, 4.65 ERA). But Frankie Montas (RHP, OAK) and his new splitter have looked rock-solid (2.67/3.29 ERA/xERA, 4.7 Cmd) through 54 IP. Similarly, Chris Bassitt (RHP, OAK) has looked like a vastly different pitcher through five starts, his 1.93/3.20 ERA/xERA and dominance (10.5 Dom, 12% SwK) a huge and unexpected improvement on anything he'd contributed in previous seasons.
