PT TOMORROW: AL West—Closing opportunity in SEA?

Seattle Mariners

Entering the second year of a two-season $14M deal, Fernando Rodney (RHP, SEA) is in no imminent danger of losing his job. Backed by a 10.3 Dom, 49% GB% and 2.85/3.19 ERA/xERA last year, Rodney saved 48 games and continued his late-career resurgence. That said, his sub-par Ctl (3.7) fueled another sketchy sub-3 Cmd as he turned 38 years old, hinting again that the erratic pre-2012 Rodney is always lurking just around the corner.

One reason for rising SEA expectations in a weakened AL West are the power bullpen arms fronting Rodney. Should he begin to test what is likely to be a short rope, Rodney's most likely successor is Danny Farquhar (RHP, SEA), who posted 16 saves and a sub-3 ERA over the final two months of 2013...
