José Abreu (1B, HOU) will remain on the IL (lumbar spine inflammation) until at least this coming Sunday, August 20, and perhaps longer depending on how he reacts to two cortisone shots. Following a dreadful 2+ month start that found him with a .532 OPS and just one HR through the first week in June, Abreu had begun to slowly turn his season around, hitting nine HR and raising his YTD OPS to .667 by late July. But a 7-for-46 stretch ensued, with Abreu then opting for treatment while intimating that his back has been an issue for most of the season.
