PT TOMORROW: AL East — Pivoting to the second half

During All-Star week, the writers of Playing Time Tomorrow have been charged with identifying one “pivotal” batter and one “pivotal” pitcher for each of the teams in their divisions. Here are my picks for the American League East. 

 

Baltimore Orioles

Hitter: Colton Cowser, OF

We are only four games into Cowser’s major league career, so the jury is obviously still out on whether he is ready to handle what could evolve into essentially the strong side of a platoon with Aaron Hicks (OF, BAL), who — even as he has been “reborn” in Baltimore — has done most of his damage against left-handed pitching (.901 OPS).

The Orioles almost certainly did not call up Cowser unless they intended to play him regularly, though they also do not lack for...
