Is the Tampa Bay catching situation evolving towards something resembling a straight platoon, favoring Michael Pérez (C, TAM) over Mike Zunino (C, TAM)?

It is a little hard to tell, given the proliferation of left-handed starters the Rays have faced, but the last time Zunino got the start against a right-handed pitcher was August 8, with Perez drawing the start against the last three righties the team has faced.

Instead of a platoon, the Rays may instead be trying to achieve a rough 50-50 split between the two catchers, which would still represent a decent-sized bounce in Perez’s playing time.

Moreover, with neither Zunino nor Perez doing much at the plate, the first player to string together a few hits may well be able...
