The plucky Marlins still have some areas to shore up before they can go toe to toe with New York, Philadelphia, and presumably also Atlanta in 2026. But the fact that they can press the likely playoff-bound Mets—taking three of four on the road from the boys from Queens—on the strength of 32 runs scored over 36 innings speaks to their offensive potential (it also speaks to the Mets’ persistent pitching issues, which is fodder for a different capsule). But it is the late-season surge by one starting pitcher in particular that has our attention today.
