Nearly one tenth of the season has unfolded, and the Nats’ rotation has held up fairly well. Their starters’ combined SIERA (3.93, 15th) and K-BB% (13.3%, 15th)—two skills-based metrics—have them firmly in the middle of the MLB pack. By one measure, E-F, which calculates the difference between FIP and ERA and can potentially uncover latent “luck” noise, the WAS rotation is 9th in baseball with a 0.43 mark (4.26 ERA – 3.83 FIP), suggesting that results could have been even better.
