The most oft-cited reasons for the Angels' disappointing season are bad pitching and the horrendous seasons of their highest paid players, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton. But the offseason extension of Chris Iannetta (C, LAA) looks like another important misfire. Following his down 2012 season—9 HR, 102 PX, .240 BA in 221 AB—the Angels' rationale for signing Iannetta was that his struggles were injury-related, he was relatively cheap (3yr/$15.5M), and he still possessed very good patience (12% bb%) too often missing in the LAA lineup.

But a terrific 18% bb% is Iannetta's only plus skill again in 2013. Apart from the walks, his offense has completely fallen apart, as seen in a career-low 68% ct% and...
