DIVISIONAL: AL Central—Peavy hits the DL

Jake Peavy (RHP, CHW) has been placed on the DL with a broken rib and is not expected back for at least 4-6 weeks. Héctor Santiago (LHP, CHW) will initially take his rotation spot, but his year has been marked by inconsistency. He has had two PQS-5 starts, but also has had a PQS-0 and a PQS-2. If Santiago doesn't stay in the rotation, the White Sox's top pitching prospect, Erik Johnson (RHP, CHW) could get the call. Johnson has been dominant at Double-A Birmingham this year: 2.53 ERA/0.94 WHIP with a 7.8 Dom. He was profiled in last week's WatchList column.

During his rehab assignment at the end of May, Gordon Beckham (2B, CHW) played two games at SS, fueling speculation that Alexei Ramirez (SS, CHW) could be traded....
