Leonys Martin may spend whole year in minors

Despite being paid like a major leaguer (five years, $15.5 million), outfielder Leonys Martin (OF, TEX) will spend 2012 in the minors if all goes according to plan, according to Rangers manager Ron Washington.

Martin, number 73 on BaseballHQ.com's list of top prospects for 2012, will try to build on his strong debut in the minors during which he posted a strong xBA (.312), though his skills and production did not fully translate upon his promotion from Double-A Frisco (4 HR, 12% bb%, 93% ct%, 1.88 Eye in 112 ABs) to Triple-A Round Rock (0 HR, 6% bb%, 0.46 Eye in 175 ABs).

Removing Martin from the equation would be a boon to the Rangers' other center field contenders,...
