Orioles sign Taiwanese pitcher
On January 10, the Orioles bolstered their rotation by signing Taiwanese starter Wei-Yin Chen (LHP, BAL). While it's hard to know how well Chen's numbers will translate to MLB, Chen did post a solid 3.0 Cmd while compiling a 2.68 ERA over 164 2/3 IP. And, while his Dom was a more pedestrian 5.1, Chen reportedly posted higher rates in previous years. He also showed a talent for keeping the ball in the park (0.5 HR/9), an important skill for a pitcher toiling in Camden Yards.
Chen's arrival will stiffen the competition in the Orioles rotation behind Tommy Hunter and Jeremy Guthrie. Youngsters Zach Britton (LHP, BAL) and Brian Matusz (LHP, BAL) will reportedly be pitching for jobs in...
