BOS acquires Byrd from CHC
Theo Epstein left Boston for the Windy City in December, and now in April has sent a struggling OF and most of his $6.5M salary to his former team. The Chicago Cubs traded Marlon Byrd (CF, BOS) to Boston for Michael Bowden (RHP, CHI) and a player to be named later (Red Sox will also assume most of Byrd's salary). Boston's OF has been ravaged by injuries to Jacoby Ellsbury (CF, BOS), Carl Crawford (LF, BOS), and Jason Repko (RF, BOS), who dislocated his shoulder in April 20 game. There is still no timetable for Ellsbury's return, and Crawford is still on the mend from his wrist and elbow problems.
