NEWS: Chicago reinstated RHP Daniel Palencia from the 15-Day IL.

BHQ SPIN: After being sidelined since mid-June in what was his second IL stint of the year, Palencia returned to Chicago’s bullpen on Friday. To make room for Palencia, Chicago demoted Javier Assad, who had been filling a long-relief role. While Palencia was operating as a set closer at the time of his IL stint, his role upon his return is unclear, particularly given the emergence of Jacob Webb in the late innings. When asked about Palencia’s role on August 18, manager Craig Counsell stated that he sees him as an “out-getter” rather than having a defined role.
