An Overview of the BABS Player Pool

Understanding the player pool is essential to assemble a plan to meet the BABS objectives for total assets and risk costs. BABS suggests a target of 35 assets for offense (14 Pw, 7 Sp, 14 Av), or about 2 1/2 per batter, and 12 assets for starting pitchers (6 Er and 6 K). For liabilities, BABS considers a budget of less than $30 in risk costs exceptional. These are ambitious goals, but they force us to work harder to meet them.

With that background, let’s take a closer look at the composition of the 2025 player pool. (Note that each database update may shift some of this data slightly, but the underlying distributions should be unaffected.)
