The Rockies have gotten off to a predictably poor start to the 2021 season, though their route there may be more of a surprise. Through Friday, the team’s starting rotation had maintained a solid 3.43 ERA, seventh best in the league. The success may be short-lived, as they have maintained just a 7.7 K-BB%—the worst mark in the league. Even so, it is still worth digging into why some of that success has occurred.
In 2020, the Rockies' rotation collectively threw their slider at a 21.9% clip, the fifth-highest rate in the league.
