Things are off to a bit of a sputtering start with team’s most notable offseason acquisition, Tommy Pham (OF, SD). Acquired via trade from the Tampa Bay Rays, reports surfaced in the immediate aftermath that Padres management wasn’t entirely comfortable with some of the medicals surrounding Pham’s right elbow. The 31-year-old played through a sprained UCL at the end of last season and received PRP therapy over the winter, keeping him from swinging a bat as much as he normally would—a situation that Pham now suggests has caused some side soreness, delaying his spring debut that was scheduled for this past Tuesday. There is no cause for alarm yet, but it’s certainly a situation that bears monitoring.
