PT TOMORROW: NL West—Giants roster could look a little different down the stretch

It’s not exactly a tailspin, but the Giants’ once-emboldened quest for the second NL Wildcard spot has definitely hit a snag, with the team posting a losing record (10-14 through Wednesday’s action) since the July 31 trade deadline. Given that they would have to pass a handful of teams in order to make the playoffs, it’s easy to wonder if Scooter Gennett’s (2B, SF) release and the call-up of prospect Maurico Dubon (2B, SF), detailed here, could be seen as an acknowledgement that this year—however much it exceeded expectations—may not ultimately end the way the Giants were hoping.
