The Padres made a splash last month when they signed Eric Hosmer (1B, SD) to a deal that could run through the end of the 2025 season. With the signing, last year’s first baseman, Wil Myers (1B, SD), will move back to right field, with the dynamic Manual Margot (OF, SD) patrolling center.

While the right-handed Jose Pirela (OF, SD) logged most of his MLB starts in LF last year, he has been seeing time at 2B this spring, a position he played regularly in the minors. Pirela earned high praise from manager Andy Green as “one of our absolute best hitters” this spring, worthy of a significant role on the team. That could point to a platoon in LF with Hunter Renfroe (OF, SD)—but with the not-exactly-overwhelming Carlos Asuaje...
