Despite having a strong top of the rotation, the Padres have struggled to get consistent innings out of their starters this season. Through 27 games, the team’s starters have averaged just 4.74 innings per start, fifth-fewest in the league. That has forced the bullpen to work 117 innings, the highest mark in the league. Though both units have been effective, the team is almost certain to run into problems from a volume perspective, and likely sooner rather than later.
