With the team fading quietly from the playoff picture, the Giants dealt Andrew McCutchen (OF, NYY) late last week, and at roughly the same time lost rookie Steven Duggar (OF, SF) to a shoulder injury that figures to keep him out 5-6 months. That said, September will provide the team a chance to give a longer audition to Austin Slater (1B/OF, SF), along with 24-year-old Chris Shaw (OF, SF), who was added to the roster on August 31.

After a brief (117 AB) debut last year, Slater, 25, was rated as the team’s #10 prospect heading into 2018. His batting average was a plus in the minors, as he owned a career .308 mark heading into the year, and improved on that to the tune of .344/.417/.564 across 53 games (195 at-bats)...
