Barring a demotion Sunday, the Rockies’ plans for Elehuris Montero (1B/3B, COL) are unclear. Montero has been recalled to the big leagues three times this season, most recently on June 21 – shortly after MLB teams had to decrease the number of pitchers on the active roster to 13. Since, Montero has started only three of 11 games (through Saturday). That usage stands in direct contrast to the typical philosophy of big-league clubs to promote prospects into a situation where they will get regular at-bats.
