The third base depth chart in San Francisco has significantly changed within the last week. Evan Longoria’s (3B, SF) absence, even if very brief, gives us a glimpse into the potential future of the position in San Francisco, as he is almost certain to become a free agent at the conclusion of the 2022 season. David Villar (3B, SF) has taken over at the hot corner with Longoria shelved. Villar has little to no prospect pedigree, but tore through the upper levels of San Francisco’s minor league system in the last two seasons (141 wRC+, .385 wOBA at Double-A in 2021; 151 wRC+, .433 wOBA at Triple-A in 2022).
