Center field has been a staffing challenge for the Braves in the early going. The team has been more snakebit than Medusa’s prom date, dealing with injuries and ineffectiveness plaguing almost all of their players capable of covering the position.

The expectation coming into camp was that Cristian Pache (OF, ATL) would displace incumbent three-time Gold Glove winner Ender Inciarte (OF, ATL). General manager Alex Anthopoulos decided to carry the then 21-year-old on the postseason roster after a grand total of four plate appearances during the regular season. While he didn’t exactly make a huge splash at the plate in the playoffs (.182/.280/.364), he did hit a home run in the NLCS, and his 3 K/4 BB suggested that he wasn’t...
