Bobby Parnell (RHP, NYM), who had Tommy John surgery last April, is progressing well in his comeback. The plan had been for him to return in early May, but they’re now shooting for a possible mid-April return. What does this mean in terms of the team’s closer job?

Parnell is expected to pitch in a setup role once he comes off the disabled list, but could at some point wrestle the assignment away from Jenrry Mejia (RHP, NYM). We can anticipate that it will take Parnell a while before he really gets sharp, so don’t look for him to be prepared to truly challenge Mejia for at least a month or more.
