Kevin Gausman (LHP, ATL) was activated from the IL on July 21 and immediately turned in a fine performance, allowing 1 ER and 5 H in 7 IP. The talented 28-year-old has plenty of upside but has been a disappointment so far this season, combining a couple trips to the IL and poor results: 5.71 ERA, 4.50 xERA, 1.43 WHIP. At the same time, there’s plenty to like in his profile, including his 9.3 Dom, 14% SwK, 93.9 Vel, and 101 BPV. It’s not hard to see that Gausman has deserved better results based on his skills. That said, Atlanta has designs on a run deep into the playoffs, and if they were to upgrade the rotation, Gausman might be the one to vacate his spot.
