James McCann (C, NYM) has some pretty big shoes to fill. No, we don’t mean Wilson Ramos (C, CHW), or even Mike Piazza (C, RET). We're talking, of course, about J.T. Realmuto (C, PHI), who for many Mets fans will forever be “the one who got away.” Expectations were high going into the first offseason with the deep pockets of new owner “Uncle Stevie” Cohen, and when the Mets signed McCann with Realmuto still available on the market, the regular chorus of Flushing Cassandras were prophesying a failed harvest in the fall and yet another turn on the wheel of despair. True, McCann is no Realmuto, but he has a good chance of being an upgrade nonetheless, especially on defense. Owner of the McCannon™ (only 8 SB allowed in 2020...
