PT TOMORROW: NL East—Could Conforto benefit from a potential Duda absence?

As BaseballHQ.com analyst Phil Hertz covered in a recent PT Today, Lucas Duda (1B, NYM) has been dealing with back spasms and pain in both hips. Duda reportedly received cortisone injections in both hips on February 24. This, on its own, would be a mild concern, but it’s particularly worrisome given that Duda was limited to just 47 games in 2016 due to a stress fracture in his lower back.

Jay Bruce (OF, NYM) began taking groundballs at first base prior to the game on February 26. For now, that’s the extent of his exposure to learning first base, but it seems likely that the team will soon ramp up his activities to include much more detailed drills.
