Two young players have been thrust into important roles in the wake of the Bryce Harper (OF/DH, PHI) injury and surgery that will likely keep him sidelined until mid-to-late August. And so far, they’ve responded.

Darick Hall (DH, PHI) was profiled in this space four weeks ago, while he was still torching Triple-A ball. Since receiving the call-up to Philadelphia on June 29, Hall has started in 11 of 12 games, 10 of those at DH through Monday’s action. He’s popped four homers in 50 AB, and though his ct% has been hovering around 70%, he’s walked just once. The lineup needs his punch, but expect some growing pains in the BA department as MLB pitchers exploit the holes in his swing.
