With both Matt Carpenter (2B, STL) and Jhonny Peralta (3B, STL) out with injuries, the front office is probably busy searching for infield options as the trade deadline approaches. General Manager John Mozeliak recently indicated that Carpenter is progressing ahead of schedule, so it may not be absolutely necessary to make a deal if another player or two step up.

Playing time has been sporadic for Jedd Gyorko (2B, STL) through most of the season, but the injuries have given him an expanded opportunity, and he's running with it. He enters the weekend having started six of the team's past seven games, while connecting for four home runs. Gyorko's played all over the infield this year, and as long as he stays hot, he'll...
